ABSTRACT

Build time into safety professionals' learning team process for the group to think about what they are trying to accomplish. One of the most interesting parts of learning is allowing the team some time to think process and review what the team discovered. The soak time predictably allows at least some of the Learning Team members to think of and offer additional information. Leaving the problem unsolved allows the team members to stop the performance of learning to actually take time to learn. Depending on the context of the Learning Team, location, production, or even availability of the people will set the tempo and the schedule for the Learning Team. Whatever time works best for the team will be the best schedule for learning. The shift is a thoughtful move towards fixing based upon learning, an informed move towards getting better.
