ABSTRACT

This chapter presents SolidWorks Motion for solving simple and complex parts or assemblies. The differences between SolidWorks Motion and Animation or Basic Motion have been discussed in detail. Motion studies are graphical simulations of motion for assembly models. Visual properties such as lighting and camera perspective can be incorporated into a motion study. Motion studies do not change an assembly model or its properties. There are some differences between the animation and motion capabilities in the various SolidWorks modules, namely, Animation, Basic Motion, and Motion Analysis. These differences need to be understood by end users so that they can determine for themselves which is the right one to use. SolidWorks Motion is the standard virtual prototyping Add-In package in SolidWorks Premium, SolidWorks Simulation Professional, and SolidWorks Simulation Premium for engineers and designers who are interested in understanding the performance of their assemblies.
