ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the features that are used in SolidWorks for creating three-dimensional (3D) objects. These Features tools are classified into five categories: extrusion features; revolved features; lofted features; swept features and modification features. In the first four categories, boss/base or cut models are realized. Due to its importance, the principles of creating reference planes in order to create more complex models. The extruded boss/base tool is for adding height or thickness to an existing two-dimensional (2D) sketch in order to realize a 3D model. The extruded cut tool is for removing a portion of existing 2D sketch or part during 3D modeling. It is a subtraction feature. The chapter illustrates the approach by including two holes, each having a 10-mm diameter located 30 mm from each side of the center of the of the 3D model that is created.
