ABSTRACT

Three-dimensional (3D) printing module is an advanced module, requiring that participants understand how to deal with tolerance for mating parts and how to 3D-print the assembly of parts. There are two ways to deal with the 3D printing of an assembly of parts: build each part and assemble them or, alternatively, print the entire assembly at one shot. The chapter presents the best practice guidelines that are published by Stratasys for building assembly parts using Fortus 3D Production Systems. It provides a methodology that developed for solving the problem of the assembly of parts based on a research that carried out on tolerances for mating parts in an assembly of parts. The chapter describes five steps that will be applied to a project: model the parts using solid-works, assemble the parts while tolerances are built into the parts, save the assembly as "part," save the "part" as Standard Tessellation Language and 3D-print.
