ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Few emergencies are as complex and anxiety inducing as a major trauma case involving a pregnant woman, where the safety and well-being of both the gravid woman and her developing fetus must be assessed and safeguarded simultaneously. Alterations in both anatomy and physiology during pregnancy must be kept in mind even in the chaos of the trauma room. Input will be required from emergency medicine, surgery, and obstetrics, with involvement as needed from other specialties such as anesthesiology, radiology, pediatrics, and critical care medicine.
