ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the human right to health a possibility and not merely a visionary's dream. But only if we organise on the basis that, although the world's people are marvellously different – singing to different scales, saying the same things in different languages, and having different appearances to each other – the only thing that really matters is our common humanity. Increasingly, people are becoming aware that the much-vaunted 'freedom' of competitive, market-dominated, neoliberalism harbours reserves of violence that periodically erupts as wars. Evidence from the real world is utterly compelling in this regard. Prosperity, even for the majority of the world's people, let alone all of them, under neoliberalism has to be an empty promise. The literature suggests that Americans who discuss the power of neoliberalism in daily US life are likely to perpetuate the idea that 'free markets' and consumerism are the only real guarantors of 'freedom.'
