ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part examines the place of narrative in four situations originally identified in the work of Rita Charon – patient and practitioner, practitioner and self, practitioner and colleagues, and practitioner and community. It provides the situations are framed within the core notion of caring for patients and for oneself. The part also examines the two more macro situations and frames them within the broader social organization of colleagues and communities.
