The word ‘but’ is an interesting one. The way people use it can tell you a lot about what is really going on for them. The way you use it can strengthen or weaken your persuasion message – but don’t take my word for that. One of the most exasperating consultations you can get into is the ‘yes, but’ consultation. You probably recognise the scenario that goes along the lines of anything you suggest being met with that phrase.
