ABSTRACT

Language conveys multiple perspectives. In any consultation or negotiation there are always – at the very least – three different positions or viewpoints that we can take about the present situation. These are identifi ed by the personal pronouns of fi rst, second and third position language (I, you/we and he/she/it/they). In other words, we need to examine situations from our own standpoint, that of our current communication partner and any other third party interests that may also be concerned or implicated.
