ABSTRACT

The clinician from hell is not a pretty sight to behold – worse still to consult with. You may have been in the presence of one or more during your clinical lifetime. There are many different types, ranging from the more austere authoritarian, a cold fi sh with poor rapport skills, to the overempathisers who personally feel every single bit of pain their patient goes through – and want to rescue them to boot. Whilst both are at different ends of the spectrum their overall effect is similar – disenfranchised patients.
