ABSTRACT
THE NEED FOR CULTURALLY COMPETENT HEALTHCARE Th e need for cultural competence is one of the most important recent developments because of increased globalisation and travel. In addition, diversity has increased in many countries due to wars, discrimination, political strife, and socioeconomic conditions resulting in increased immigration. Th e literature on health and healthcare disparities across ethnic, social and economic groups provides compelling evidence for healthcare providers and healthcare organisations to be attentive to diversity and cultural competency.
