ABSTRACT

This chapter enables the reader to explore the influence of faith, belief and culture in our personal and professional life. To help to raise staff awareness of the likely faith and belief needs of patients, the people may find that the people have a local Multi-Faith Guide in hospital or UK Department of Health. The UK is described as a multicultural and multi-faith society. When considering faith and belief, the term 'multi-faith' can be used to describe the range of faith communities and belief groups that exist in society. In seeking to assess and address spiritual needs that are influenced by an individual's faith belief and culture, we enter into an area of increasing diversity. The chapter outlines the complexities of faith, belief and culture as they arise in what is termed our multi-faith, multicultural society. This area of care is one that forms part of the expertise and specialism that is healthcare chaplaincy.
