ABSTRACT
The blood system connects with every organ and working mechanism of the human body and is responsible for the oxygenation of, transmission of chemical messengers to and excretion of waste products from all tissues. Thus blood is fundamental to health and disease. Accessing it for analysis is one of the easiest tests to carry out. The levels of public awareness of the importance of blood is high, although even concepts such as anaemia are not well understood and should be carefully explained both to the parents and to the child. Children themselves, while disliking blood tests, are fascinated by the subject of the blood, and accurate information will be well received.
