ABSTRACT
In Scene 5 on your DVD the patient, Gerry, has progressed much further towards death. Again, his girlfriend is present, and this consultation provides an opportunity to talk about some of the very difficult issues around end of life decision making. We see his consultant and specialist nurse responding to issues including where and how to die. In this sequence Gerry’s mobility and ability to communicate is restricted, and the scene is quite distressing.
Themes include: how and where to die, assisted dying, quality of life and managing emotional distress.
