ABSTRACT

Scene 6 on your DVD is a short exchange which follows the point directly above about issues that individuals may wish to discuss with healthcare workers independently of their loved ones. Gerry has left the room for a blood test, and his girlfriend takes the opportunity to speak to the specialist nurse about something that has been playing on her mind. We see the nurse responding to an issue relating to the couple’s intimacy, reminding us that other aspects of the previous relationship are still important in spite of perhaps appearing shadowed by the challenge of terminal illness.

Themes include: confidentiality, flexible response outside of the formal consultation, sex and sexuality, carer fears and the transition from loving partner to carer.
