ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces student and practitioner to concepts and frameworks in public health and collaborative practice in addition to current challenges and trends in these domains. It guides reader through a carefully developed case study. The chapter considers the role of collaborative working in public health in primary care settings and the importance of collaborative working in localities to address complex issues. It identifies the importance of considering a range of diverse perspectives when considering issues in primary care. The chapter also identifies the importance of engaging a range of stakeholders in interventions to improve health in primary care. It considers way of measuring the impact of interventions. The chapter argues that carefully designed learning opportunities can support both interprofessional collaboration and new professional roles that integrate a public health perspective in conjunction with individual models of care. It describes some of the trends in interprofessional collaborative practice for public health in different disciplines.
