ABSTRACT

Job satisfaction helps to ‘stress-proof a person and protect them against stress resulting from excessive demands at work. Women general practitioners (GPs) seem to have greater job satisfaction than their male colleagues and the general population. The highest levels of satisfaction for male and female GPs are gained from the responsibility that comes with the job, being in control of how they work and the amount of variety in the job. Continuing personal and professional development are integral with maintaining job satisfaction and professional fulfilment. GP participants could apply to their region’s Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education for permission to submit one or more completed modules for postgraduate education accreditation. The highest levels of satisfaction for male and female GPs are gained from the responsibility that comes with the job, being in control of how they work and the amount of variety in the job.
