ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how do one feel about hard work and focuses on the level of workload. The workaholics will exceed their work time, and the bone idle will tend to dodge their responsibilities. A partnership of relaxed people in touch with their social side may get on well, and a partnership of keen innovators dedicated to patient care may also work. Length of appointments offered may determine workload. Shorter appointments may seem to get through the work quickly, and longer appointments are less stressful for the doctor, improve the quality of care for patients, and reduce the consultation rate per year. Management work both within the practice and outside, can take up a lot of time, and this will probably increase as primary care groups become more complex. Out-of-hours work can be very stressful, but some doctors feel they ought to provide this service, because no one will do the job for their patients as well as they can.
