ABSTRACT

The increasing recognition that it is also important to integrate the patient's perspective in the decision-making process is another challenge, and is enriching this evidential approach to healthcare management at the individual patient level. Much of the progress made in healthcare since the late 1980s can be attributed to the rise in popularity of the 'evidence-based' approach, which states that decisions about tests and treatments should be made on the basis of mathematical estimates of their respective risks and benefits for the patient. A conflict existed between the variation in learning cultures exhibited by the delegates, and the effect that this has on processes. However, demand for training in evidence-based healthcare in recent years has been greatly enhanced by the political climate in the UK.
