ABSTRACT

Introduction The nature of the way in which doctors work in general practice has changed. At a structural level, the medical workforce itself has changed. One in three general practitioners (GPs) is a woman, and two-thirds of medical students want ing to go into general practice are women. Their desire for family-friendly working hours, such as part-time, flexible working, term-time only, are now also being adopted by their male colleagues. Almost one-fifth of all GP principals now work part-time in general practice.1
