ABSTRACT

Introduction In Chapter 7 some ideas were introduced about the influences that, over time and from sector to sector, dictate the degree to which learning changes as a priority area for organisations. In thinking about these influences and the way that they impact on work-related learning, I suggested that it is helpful to consider the connections between the investment that is made at national, organisational and individual levels, and the direction that is taken as a result of Government policies. I suggested that within any organisation there are identifiable factors that help or hinder learning; and I also drew attention to factors that influence the extent to which individual employees embrace or reject learning opportunities provided for them. Broadly speaking, this is the framework of my model of 'factors that influence work-related learning'.
