ABSTRACT
Selecting reviewers is perhaps the most important role of a journal editor. Since most journals do not pay their reviewers, editors usually try to create a large database to spread the load and ensure good coverage in all subjects. The biggest names in a field will probably be in high demand from several journals (and already busy people). Furthermore, one study has shown that younger reviewers (aged <40) tend to produce the best reviews. 1
