ABSTRACT

Introductory workshops teach basic required skills and knowledge of clinical hypnosis. They almost always involve twenty hours of training, and completion of course is required both for membership and in order to take additional courses. Intermediate courses deal more in specific content areas and provide an opportunity for supervised practice. They form an excellent stepping-stone in integration of hypnotherapeutic techniques with healthcare professional’s usual practice. Advanced courses deal with specific topics and assume a basic knowledge and some extended experience/skill on the part of learner. The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) provides certification and approved consultant programs. There are two levels of certification. Entry level is simply called ‘Certification’. An advanced level, called ‘Approved Consultant’. ASCH Certification in Clinical Hypnosis is distinct from other ‘certification’ programs in that it ensures that the certified individual is a bona fide health care professional who is licensed in his or her state or province to provide medical, dental, or psychotherapeutic services.
