ABSTRACT
Although the administration of anaesthetics within hospital practice in the UK tended to be performed only by physicians, in community dental practice the situation was different. ‘Dental-chair’ anaesthesia continued to a large extent to be given by experienced dental surgeons as well as by doctors. In some cases the anaesthetist and the operator were the same person.
