ABSTRACT

If, and only if, it makes good fi nancial sense to recruit an additional physician, initiate your search. Your options are word of mouth, referrals from colleagues, contacts with academic medical centers, especially where you did your own training, national searches through advertising, and working with a professional physician recruitment fi rm. If you work with a recruitment fi rm, you can arrange either a contingency or a retained search. Exhibit 8.2 describes both approaches. The cost of working with a recruitment fi rm can range between 20 and 30 percent of the physician’s salary for the fi rst year.
