ABSTRACT
Surgical treatment for carcinoma of the cervix is feasible until and including stage IIa. Radiotherapy is another option; however, ovarian function can be reliably preserved with surgery but not with radiotherapy. In younger women, preservation of ovarian function is clearly desirable and surgery may therefore be preferable unless there are other contraindications.
