ABSTRACT

The main objective of surgical management of ovarian cancer is debulking (reducing tumour mass), which can involve extensive surgery, and bowel involvement in the tumour is not uncommon. Complications such as paralytic ileus and bowel obstruction can ensue. In this case, nausea and vomiting, together with a distended abdomen, suggest a bowel complication; as bowel sounds are absent, paralytic ileus is likely.
