ABSTRACT
Figure 11.1 presents comprehensive data from the computer appointment system of seven Sheffield practices for all GP and practice nurse consultations in 1998. It shows what percentage of patients were seen on the same day, after one day through to 30 days:
• 35% of GP patients were seen on the same day as the appointment was requested, 65% were seen within three days of making the appointment and 85% within a week
• The figure also shows mini-peaks at seven, 14 and 28 days, reflecting patients coming back to see a GP ‘in a fortnight’.
