ABSTRACT

The many ways to manage healthcare professionals’ time better fall into three main categories: reducing the amount of work to be done; doing the work more quickly; and allowing more time for the particular piece of work. To give people insight into how they spend their time, so that they can review whether they wish to change the balance of time that is spent on their various activities. Comparing with their peers and with recommended guidelines will help participants to realise that the way in which they divide their own time may be abnormal, and may thus stimulate change. Anyone and everyone will benefit from reviewing the extent to which they achieve a good balance in the way in which they allocate time to essential, desirable and unimportant activities in their lives. Encourage participants to reflect on their own time logs after the workshop and discuss them with their partner or family at home, or with a work colleague.
