ABSTRACT

Good employment practice includes regular job appraisal, at least annually. Most employees will have an arrangement for their work to be supervised by their manager. Competencies or deficiencies in the quality of performance can be listed under the following three main areas: professional competence, relationships with other people, and ethical standards. A person who does not meet minimum acceptable standards also fails to use previous records as a source of information about past events and maintain proper records and systems of review. Some of the standards for professional competence and relationships with colleagues will also have ethical implications. Poor ethical standards may also be manifested by giving references that are biased or untrue, or omitting important information and making poor use of the resources available. Participants gain confidence in their own ability to assess people's contributions within a team. Participants may make personal and negative remarks about each other.
