ABSTRACT

Innocent and guilty 911 callers were both under stress when speaking to dispatchers. However, even during the crisis, most innocent callers were able to quickly convey information without having to carefully choose their words. In contrast, some guilty callers tried to edit their comments while under stress, resulting in Awkward Phrases. In response to dispatchers’ questions regarding the victims and the scenes, these guilty callers’ words were clumsy and confusing.
