ABSTRACT

Officers trained in analyzing 911 calls will recognize guilty indicators such as No Immediate Plea for Help for the Victim, Acceptance of Death, Extraneous Information, and No Urgency. There are also 10 additional tips to help officers determine if the callers are involved in the crime:

1. Arrival at scene: Are officers’ welcomed? Did the 911 callers genuinely demand help while on the phone,

and are they eager to see officers and medics arrive? Do they assist with an expedient arrival by directing officers to the correct location and yelling for them to hurry? Innocent callers in the 911 study were enthusiastic when officers and medics arrived, but many guilty callers were not.
