ABSTRACT

True development is development and flowering of the personality of human beings. Happiness depends on one's attitude towards life. Happiness also depends on cultural attitudes of a society in which an individual lives. To create a prosperous society in India, the first task is to completely eliminate poverty and hunger. If India is to become a happy and prosperous society, Indian national policies should be focused on 'higher philosophy' of life. Indian cultural and spiritual heritage offers solution to the problems with which the modern world is afflicted. The core of Indian philosophy is dharma (righteous living), which embraces all aspects of human values such as truth, ahimsa, compassion, service before self and universal brotherhood. Indian national policy should promote these values so that we produce young men and women of character and discipline, who have the courage to fight poverty, corruption, injustice and other evils with which the society is afflicted.
