ABSTRACT

Political Internet is a distinct portrayal of the political trajectories of Indian Internet. The fascinating question is whether the Internet is in politics or politics is in the Internet or what is political about the Internet. The first question is that of application of Internet in political engagements, whereas the second question is concerned with who and how the Internet is owned or put it otherwise, the second question is all about political economy of Internet. The third question is more significant to Indian condition in the sense that by entering the Internet landscape many people are also entering into a rational political act. To a curious mind, these interesting questions regarding Internet in India is that of how to approach it. How should one approach the fundamental question on Internet, more particularly in a peculiar context of the social structure prevalent here? Social landscape in India is intervened by social facts such as castes, religions, languages, culture, class and gender. Therefore, individual behaviour and attitude is largely scripted by the invisible power of the social structures. For that reason, the role of Internet in bringing changes in the social structures and explicit human behaviour is a pertinent question.
