ABSTRACT

As though waiting for me to remember the Originals – that is, the animals and plants that came well before the humans, which are therefore the natural mediators to teach humans how to act lawfully in a great cosmos of interlinking species and land/seascapes – the tales began to push forth their presence. As Kathleen Kemarre Wallace begins her story of the Emu man ancestor:

Everyone can learn from stories; this one is about listening, learning and respecting the culture we share. It is about the knowledge of our ancestors, speaking to us through ampere, art, dance, song and stories. This story used to be told to us by our grandparents. It shows us the importance of respecting our culture and its laws.2
