ABSTRACT

Creativity can be found in all kinds of environments. The author Eric Weiner circled the globe, visiting places he called "historic places of genius", places creativity has flourished during particular eras. Even the physical environment can affect students' creative participation-or participation at all. Rogers's concept of psychological safety, although not directly addressing the topic of motivation, expressed his understanding of the conditions necessary for an individual to develop creativity freely. Acceptance of the individual as having unconditional worth is at the core of psychological safety. This type of acceptance means that whatever his or her current condition, the person is seen as having value and potential. Individuals in flow have reported a balance between the challenge of the task and their skill level. Achieving that balance for a diverse student population can be difficult. If students are to have opportunities to identify and pursue questions and to develop creative products, all students in class must be taught skills of independent working.
