ABSTRACT

The word pesticide can be defined as “any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating pests (insects, rodents, nematodes, weeds, fungi, etc.).” Among all pests, insects pose a serious threat to human health, since some of them serve as vectors transmitting bacteria, viruses, and parasites (malaria, filariasis, West Nile virus, Zika virus, yellow fever, viral encephalitis, rickettsialpox, typhus, bubonic plague, and others) from animals to humans or from humans to humans. Each year, millions of people become sick and a large number of them die from these deadly diseases. In such scenarios, the use of insecticides is not only important, but also inevitable to prevent and/or combat these vector-borne diseases.
