ABSTRACT

Every researcher has to submit research articles and communications to journals for publication in the scientific literature. Journals have tried to be helpful to authors on this by introducing the role of coauthor definition such as who conceived the project, who did the research in its various portions (e.g. chemical synthesis, sample purification, physical measurements and/or analysis), who coordinated it and who wrote the paper? After an editor receives the manuscript, he or she may well reject the paper without sending it out for peer review. Authors often fail to appreciate this and can get annoyed because their paper has not been reviewed. A general point to note is that they are not always as tough as their reputation might seem. Editors can help authors. The editor is of course the gatekeeper of good science, but one should expect them to be constructive, offering help and expertise that can lead to article acceptance after a major revision.
