ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a three-phase framework that makes it simple to manage the Clubhouse Classroom atmosphere so it is filled with students who are passionate about learning. Each of the phases may take several weeks, depending on your learners and the complexity of the lessons within the learning phase. Phase One occurs over the course of the first month of school, and its purpose is three-fold. First, it focuses on getting to really know your students. Second, this period offers the time needed for students to get to know themselves. And finally, students are trained in the essential routines and roles. The purpose of the second phase in launching Learning Clubs is to help students learn to recognize their own thinking. Students learn about "good fit" tools and start implementing the Thinkbook. Phase Three is the independent practice phase of passion-driven learning. The Passion Project day differs from traditional project and Learning Club work in several ways.
