ABSTRACT

Children are the most passionate, ravenous, fearless learners we know. They are insatiably curious, innately fearless, and they WANT to learn! If schools are to be places where passionate and powerful learning happens, children should have a thing or two to say about what they need. There are even days when leaving the classroom and the field seems like the best path to take. Passion is a choice. And choosing passion in a time of insurmountable change will not be easy. Change is hard. It is human instinct to resist it as people find comfort in things steady and predictable. Choosing passion is an act of defiance as it asks to defy perfection, predictability, and safe, scripted teaching. Committing to passion means being vulnerable and wrong. It will require to exercise strength and embrace the struggle as one nurtures connections and welcomes new challenges.
