ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a review of the literature exploring the concepts of social capital and corporate sustainability in the context of developing countries. It discusses the concept of capital in general, social capital within the framework of fi ve capital, investment in social capital, and the benefi ts to corporate sustainability deriving from social capital investment. The chapter explores the importance for companies to invest in social capital to achieve their corporate sustainability objectives. The literature shows that a company can improve the social structure, thereby making social change, by improving the capabilities of underprivileged people and bridging them with resources through the company’s facilitations.
