ABSTRACT
In order to decide w hether Herr J astrow is correct in his assertion that tbe new Code places German women in a better position than that formerly occupied by them, whether or not it, in his own words; confers "great and essential advantages on them," a full and accurate acquaintance with tbe previous state of the Gerrnan law as affecting wornen would be necessary. In the absence of such knowledge we shall confine ourselves to surnrnarising a few of the more important enactrnents .
