ABSTRACT

It was in 1870, after reading John Stuart Mill's " Subjection of Women" that Asta Hansteen became a warm advocate of Women's Suffrage. Among the many pamphlets she wrote on that question the most popular is one called " K vinden Skabt i Gud's Billede " (Woman created in God's image). For some years she

·lived in Boston and Chicago, studying with ardent interest all things concerning women, and. especially their social position. It was during her absence from Norway that the first Women's Rights Association was founded in Christiania, of which Asta Hansteen is now a member.
