ABSTRACT

The Forum.-The November number of the Forum contains a highly interesting article by Frances M. Abbott, " A Generation of College Women," well worth reading by all who .watch the more recent education of women, whether to carp or to praise. , The article dea.ls with no theories, it simply gives all such availa.ble data. as can be procured to show the after careers of the 1,082 women who have graduated from Vassar College between 1867 and 1894. Vassar' opened in 1865, and "its brief existence practically covers the whole period of advanced education for women." The list of career is diversified-teachers; ' literary -workers, physicians, astronomers, artists, librarians, organists, missionaries and many other callings. And as regards the calling most eagerly inquired about-marriage ?-the remark of the late Maria Mitchell seems to sum up the position in a word-" Vassar girls marry late, but they marry well."
