ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceeding chapters of this book. The book shows that Wilsonian factors have been overlooked in previous explanations and are an important part of understanding the conflicts such as: the First World War, the War of 1812, the Korean War and the First Gulf War. It argues that the two key pillars of Wilsonianism, democracy promotion and collective security were an important and influencing factor in the decision to wage war and are an important component of the US foreign policy debate. The book revisits conflicts that have often been explained by realist and economic explanations and demonstrated Wilsonian explanations are an important factor that should be considered alongside other explanations. It explores the concept of Wilsonianism as an influence that has existed since the beginning of the republic.
