ABSTRACT

The first chapter positions the central research of this book in the domain of Cultural Studies. It presents the present-day orientation of the domain through a purposeful selection of theoretical themes. A brief history of the domain demonstrates these origins. In addition, this chapter discusses the interest of Cultural Studies in signs and mediation, before continuing to the more technology-related themes of technological agency, determinism, and cyborgs. Overall, it presents a more holistic, context-sensitive approach to technology acceptance in education.
