ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we examine how predictive policing, data mining and predictive analysis support the overall mission of law enforcement. This technology builds upon the existing models of crime analysis and crime mapping. Modern police managers have adopted predictive policing because traditional crime methods are limited and because predictive policing can be more effective with the advent of new technology throughout society. Predictive policing uses technology to determine deployment patterns and identify measureable factors
to address crime trends. This chapter also discusses various success stories from law enforcement agencies and gives police managers the necessary background on the topic before purchasing this innovative technology.
