ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on helping individuals update and negotiate their new relationship with food after bariatric surgery. The chapter outlines the positive changes in eating (e.g. getting away from a dieting mindset) as well as some of the challenges that individuals may experience (e.g. mourning the loss of food, lack of pleasure from food). The chapter outlines strategies to help people manage their eating so that they stay on track and develop a healthy relationship with food. The chapter also reviews strategies to help individuals avoid or manage particular eating problems (e.g. binge eating and grazing) associated with poor weight loss.
