ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the type of psychological adjustments and changes which often arise after bariatric surgery. Individuals have often struggled with low self-esteem and confidence before surgery and strategies and tools to facilitate improving these are outlined. Other adjustment areas covered include changes in identity, coping with attention and compliments and learning skills in assertiveness. The chapter also focuses on strategies to manage low mood and depression after bariatric surgery, as this can impact weight loss and quality of life.
