ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on non-hunger-related eating, where individuals often eat in response to their emotions. Eating becomes a way of managing our feelings. It is important to address this as it can continue to be problematic after surgery and leads to less weight loss and continues to cause distress. The chapter outlines the vicious cycle of emotional eating that people often feel trapped in. It focuses on developing an understanding of why this pattern of emotional eating has developed before outlining a range of alternative strategies to manage our emotions.
